The Mount Calvary in Maria Plain was constructed in the 17th century. It is the only one of its kind to still exist. It is located in an exposed setting on the Plainberg, visible from afar, both from Salzburg City and southern Bavaria. The Mount Calvary is located directly in front of the pilgrimage church of Maria Plain, one of the most visited of its kind in Central Europe. Its significance and its protected status are primarily based on the fact that it is the only such site to be preserved to this day.
