Hiking in the Region

Close to Bergheim, a number of different paths lead you out through wonderful natural landscapes to views that are simply marvelous, amid lush meadows and pure, clean air. The maps listed can be ordered by following this link. So, let's go!

Gaisberg - via Kobenzl and Gersbergalm (2)

You will begin exploring the Gaisberg as you follow the former tracks of the old cog railway from the Parsch section of Salzburg. The route takes you via Hotel Kobenzl and the Gersbergalm before returning you to the city.

Arrival/Start: from Schmedererplatz square (Salzburg City) = terminus of the No. 6 bus, towards Parsch
Distance: 6.5 km

Plötz at Ebenau (7)

Between the villages of Ebenau and Koppl are many mills and magical family hiking paths. But the absolute highlight is the unique Plötz.

Arrival/Start: Salzburg City towards St. Gilgen, after Hof follow signs for Wiestal, continue to Ebenau and the recycling center next to the road

Elevation Change: 242 m gains and descents

Spielberg and Wieserhörndl (10)

A sunny hiking area for the whole family, One section, from the car park to the Spielbergalm (2.3 km) also accessible to prams.

Arrival/Start: A10, Hallein exit, through Wiestal to Gaissau, and from there follow the Spielbergstrasse (toll: EUR 3 in coins)

Elevation Change: 332 m in gains, 331 m descents

Untersberg (23)

From Marktschellenberg via the sunny south side of the Untersberg to the top of the Salzburger Hochthron, returning on the cable car.

Arrival/Start: A10, exit "Salzburg Süd", following signs for Berchtesgaden. After 1.5 km, leave your car on the parking lot in St. Leonhard at the Untersberg cable car. Walk from there and take bus No. 840 to Marktschellenberg: trail up to the ice cave
Distance: 7.7 km
Time: 5 hours
Difficulty: hard
Elevation Change: 1,611 m gains and 288 m descents
Refreshments: Toni-Lenz-Hotte, Hochalm, Zeppezauerhaus
Sights: Marktschellenberg ice cave, rock tunnel to the Mittagsscharte, splendid views of Salzburg
